What an exciting field trip to Java Cone!!
We had a beautiful day for a walk to Java Cone! The ice cream was delicious! We also practiced our safety tips while crossing the road. We also used our money skills to pay for our own ice cream! YUMMY!!!

Kevin is graduating this year! He went over to the Freshman Campus to visit his new classroom and meet Mr. Meyer!! It will be hard to say goodbye to "our Kev" but the time has come. Kevin is sooooo excited to be going to High School!!! Good luck Kevin!! We will miss you!!
Swimming
We had a great time swimming! Brookwood did not join us this week so we had the whole pool to ourselves! Mrs. McClymont led us in some water aerobics. We swam, paddled, ran, hopped and had sooo much fun!! We are looking forward to teaching Brookwood some of our new moves in the next couple of weeks!
RAISING AWARENESS!!
Mrs. McClymont, Ms. Poole and Ms. Davis brough our families out to participate in the Autism Services of Kent County (A.S.K.) walk. What a GREAT time!! Please look for information in your child's backpack regarding community events and resources that we learned about at the walk. The staff at Valleywood donated money towards our efforts. A BIG thank you to our great Valleywood team!! We are looking forward to beafing up our efforts next year. We are hoping to see you and your family at the walk next year!!!

It started a great conversation about how - as a class - we felt that was one of the cool things about Valleywood...we really liked how accepting and caring VW kids are. My students were particularly interested in what your students' likes were. They read through it several times until they knew the likes and names of your students. Warmed my very liberal heart.

Learning about our country!
We are learning about the USA. We are working on learning the states and important things about our country. Today we watched an amazing video of a 9 yr old singing the Star Spangled Banner. YUMMY....Green Eggs!!!
Mrs. McClymont read us the Dr. Suess book, Green Eggs and Ham. In the end he tried the green eggs and found that he liked them!! We learned that it is ok to try new things...you never know, you might even like it!!! We all gobbled up our green eggs and even asked for more!

Dr. Suess would have been 110 yrs old today!!! We read One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish and ate cupcakes to celebrate his big day. We will be continuing to read great stories all month long as we celebrate reading month!
Music Therapy

The Red Cross visits our classroom!
To finish up our healthy living unit, Ms. Buschle had the Red Cross come in and give a lesson about GERMS. The students learned ways not to spread GERMS by:
1. Washing hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.
2. Coughing and sneezing in our elbows.
3. Taking a shower and washing with soap every other day.
4. Putting on clean clothes every day.
5. Not sharing eating utensils, drinks, or food.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE WASHINGTON!!
George Washington did not want cupcakes for his Birthday. He wanted Cracker Bread!! So in honor of his birthday, we made craker bread together. We sent a baggie home with each student...ENJOY!
Our Trip To The Dentist!!!
We are finishing up our unit on Healthy Living. We visited the dentist office. We sat in the Dentist's chair and got to say, "AHHHH"! He showed us all his special tools that help keep our teeth clean. The office put together great goodie bags filled with lots of things to help keep our teeth clean at home, too!
Our Sensory Room

We are approaching Valentine's Day! Ms. Poole made us this great heart with all our pictures! We hung it out in the hallway to spread the love to all of Valleywood!

Our sensory room has been made over! We added a trampoline and a massage mat. We also added some light covers to the other side of the room to make it a more comfortable, soothing atmosphere.

4 Food Groups
We have been talking about nutrition and how to make great choices when we eat! We cut out some pictures of food and sorted them into the 4 basic food groups, Meat, Dairy, Fruits/veg., and Grains. Fun in Gym!!
We have been having so much fun in gym! Ms. Hemmes has some new exercise balls for us in gym. Ms. Davis has been showing us how to roll, lift, stretch, and bounce using the exercise balls. Getting some fresh air!
We took advantage of all that great sunshine today! We are going to get outside at least 3 days a week for a walk. Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing. Today we walked, ran, skipped and galloped our way around the building.
